How to:

Finding Books

Finding Books

The library has an extensive collection of both print and online books. While some titles are owned in both formats, most are either print or online.

Print books

Print books are shelved in the stacks by call number. In the CDU library, the National Library of Medicine numbers are used for medical books and the Library of Congress system for non-medical subjects. Quick reference cards for the NLM subjects are available at the front desk.
To find out whether the library has a book that you need, use the online catalog by following the link on the library’s home page. If we have the book, you will also see the call number.

Online books

The library has access to thousands of electronic books, which are accessible in a number of ways. These books can be accessed on campus, or off-campus with EZProxy login.

* From the Ebooks page – by following the link on the library’s home page. This list contains all of the titles from the medical ebook collections (Access Medicine, StatRef, MDConsult, Ovid). It is arranged by medical specialty. These titles are also in the online catalog.

* From the individual collecton – by following the Quicklink (on the left side of the library home page) to the collection. This method is particularly important for Ebrary, which has thousands of books on every subject.

* From the online catalog – all of the titles from the medical collections have been entered into the online catalog. In addition, a large number of the Ebrary books on medical and health subjects have also been entered. For each electronic title, there is a link in the electronic record that allows you to go directly to the electronic book.

Interlibrary loan

If the book you need is not in the library or online, we can attempt to borrow it from another library. Interlibrary loan forms are available at the library, or you can complete and submit the online form.
